My philosophy on checking and calling in poker differs from that of many other top poker players and poker experts. To them, checking and then calling shows weakness. They believe you should usually either bet or check and fold.

I teach the simple idea that when your hand is not strong enough to place a bet, you should usually check and that when, after checking, your hand is not weak enough to fold, you should usually call a bet. Checking and calling is quite often the best strategy choice and in fact, is one of the most natural interactions in the poker universe.

Here is the important point. If you regularly check and call with semi-weak or medium-strong poker hands, you should also check and call occasionally with very strong ones. Doing so keeps your astute opponents off guard and ensures that they can not easily take advantage when you check and call.
